Are there any success stories with housing projects? Has mixed income developments made a positive impact?
I don’t believe there are any. Anyone who tells you that they have had success mixing the ghetto and the rich are just the developers themselves. I live in a town that rebuilt the projects to be ritzy condos costing $200,000 and even when I drive by to this day I make sure my doors are locked and drive through the area quickly. I think you can tear the projects down and rebuild high priced real estate in its place but you will never rid the area of the stigma attached to it.
