Passion Pit Tickets – Boston Boys With Wild Manners

Following a run through the UK and Japan, indie rockers Passion Pit find mainstream fame as they hit up North America on a spring/summer jaunt. Promoting the debut album Manners, of which they have found commercial support by way of genre leaders like John Mayer and Justin Timberlake, the Boston boys set up late March through May 1st.

The critically and commercially successful May release features Michael Angelakos on vocals and keys, Ian Hultquist on keys and guitar, Ayad Al Adhamy on synth, Jeff Apruzzese on bass and Nat Donmoyer on drums, as they set up for 18 dates throughout major North American cities like Portland, Nashville, Salt Lake City, Chicago, San Francisco, Cleveland and Buffalo. The set has found two singles shoot toward Billboard fame – “Sleepyhead” and “The Reeling” – and with the latest promotion via http://www.stubhub.com/, Passion Pit tickets are going to keep selling.

The group, which saw Manners make Pitchfork Media’s, New York Post’s and Filter Magazine Best of 2009 list, has been promoting their sound for just over a year after finishing the album with Chris Zane and Aleix Aldi. While Manners features the same jumpy electronic dance beats of previous hits, the group wrote on their MySpace page there is “no more built-in laptop microphones [this time]” after having signed to Columbia Records/Frenchkiss for the release. Manners, which follows the EP Chunk of Change closely (both feature the track “Sleepyhead”), found promotion early on while the guys opened up for several international acts on tour, including Death Cab for Cutie.

Paste Magazine, a longtime fan of the Boston quintet that even featured the band on their cover last year, showcased the group’s latest remix and Lady Gaga single “Telephone” recently. The release, which is new to both Gaga and the boys, allows a wider audience to listen to these indie rockers who have been known to work their magic on the computer. Gearing up for summer festival season in addition to their new North American dates, Passion Pit also released a new video called “Little Secrets” in February.

The group was originally the solo outpouring of frontman Angelakos, a 21-year-old musician who has been writing music since he was five. Passion Pit’s website claims the members have more things on their mind than “girls, girls, girls,” though the tunes of Passion Pit were first created for a girlfriend’s present on Valentine’s Day. The Chunk of Change was much too vibrant to share to just one lady, and it spread around locally before getting into the hands of some movers and shakers.

The band came out of necessity, as Passion Pit’s sound was too infectious to not play live. Angelakos grouped a few synth makers for the live performances, premiering to a sold-out audience at New York’s Bowery Ballroom. Just two months later the group was releasing Manners following sessions with producer Zane (Les Savy Fav, The Walkmen) and started promotions. Now the group is opening up its own venues with fans singing along to every word.

Has anyone else seen Jonathan Mover (sub for Prairie Prince) lose it backstage at a Tubes show?

For years I have heard that the Tubes were, musically, one of the best bands around. Finally got a chance to see them in Nashville on 6/13/08. Paid for the best seats I could get, so we could do a “meet and greet” before the show. For the 45 seconds I was in the room, Jonathan Mover (subbing for Prairie Prince) kept up a running monologue about how people from Nashville “are too busy raping horses to appreciate good musicianship.” I was completely taken aback, and just glad to get out of that room. I am originally from NY, have played in bands/hung out with other musicians for many years, and know that this kind of talk goes on – in private – before a show. I have never witnessed a professional act like this in front of fans. I did not pay to hear it, and it ruined an otherwise good concert. (Fee Waybill was awesome.) Has anyone else experienced Mover’s “witty repartee?”

I also saw The Tubes play in Nashville on 6/13/08. I didn’t have the tickets to do the meet and greet before the show, but I did get a chance to meet everyone afterwards. I thought Jonathan Mover was a nice guy, and didn’t say anything that I thought was rude. When I read your question, I actually thought it was pretty humorous..maybe you shouldn’t take things so seriously. Who’s to say that he wasn’t referring to the crowd size not being big enough to the WHOLE bands liking??

When Jimmy Buffett eventually becomes the subject of a college course–and given his enduring popularity as a singer-songwriter and author, you know he will someday–here’s what’ll be on the final exam. Boats, Beaches, Bars & Ballads is so named because the four-CD collection divides Buffett’s collected works among those categories, giving each disc a theme. From early classics such as “Biloxi” an…
